Communicating Health Messages

Communication enables us to relay our thoughts and feelings to others. To be effective and successful with an endeavor is to effectively convey messages to another person. To be effective, messages must be clear, targeted to each unique audience, and adjusted for various situations. Speakers must be aware of the messages they are sending to the listener and aware of the listener's potential response to the message.

This presentation explores methods the pediatrician can use to communicate with parents, the community, and key members within the school system while working to improve school health. The presentation also examines how the pediatrician can develop strong relationships with the media and child health advocacy organizations. Participants will learn how they can better prepare themselves to relay health messages to the media and the community.
