Establishing a School Health Coordinating Council

A group of people who are well organized and focused can accomplish more than any one individual. If group are selected for their diverse experiences and beliefs, the organization has a wealth of knowledge to draw from and can leverage wider support from the community at large. The challenges facing school health can be met by establishing an organized council of diverse people with interests in school health.

This presentation explores the use of the school health council as a tool for propagating health messages to the community. The presentation discusses the importance of selecting council members and reminds pediatricians not to limit the council's functions. The school council has more influence and effectiveness if it evolves to meet the changing needs of the community.
