Health Education

A. THE ROLE OF THE PEDIATRICIAN

SLIDE IV-3

There are many ways in which pediatricians can help schools implement and improve health education curricula. These include the following:

  • Helping to determine which health risk behaviors are prevalent in the community.
  • Consulting on which health education curricula should be chosen by the school district leadership.
  • Assisting in the evaluation of the health education curricula in use to determine whether they are adequate.
  • Teaching health-related topics to students, as well as to teachers, school nurses, and parents.
  • Reinforcing the messages taught in school with students and their parents during pediatric office visits.
